About Moon Gazing at Walthamstow Wetlands

31st January is a significant night for celestial events - it will be the very first time in over 150 years that we will experience a SUPER BLUE BLOOD MOON! But what exactly is it? A super moon occurs when the full moon passes closest to earth in its orbit so appears much bigger. A treat in itself. The blue moon is when we have two full moons in one calendar month but this time round, the blue moon also happens to coincide with a lunar eclipse. With these three events coming together all at once, it’s a rare treat for budding and expert astronomers. We may not even see this again this century. Come and enjoy this very special event at Walthamstow Wetlands with an after-hours viewing of the moonrise from the banks of the East Warwick followed by refreshments and a talk by Stow Stargazers in the locally-listed Engine House. There will also be a further opportunity to have another walk and look at the supermoon from the Lockwood reservoir. Event finishes at 8pm.
