About My Girl The River and Red Shoes (Live)
My Girl The River
Created by Kris Wilkinson Hughes, My Girl The River was born out of a song. 'The Last Song' was the first song written for this americana, alt country, folk and roots project. Kris, hailing from Louisiana (and having lived in Jackson, MS and Nashville, TN) and English bassist Joe Hughes, have created a gorgeous collection of songs. As one fan responded 'it's like a delicately passionate love letter to the American South, soulfully crafted into something really special. Kris has a voice like sugared espresso, low and evocative with a sweet aftertaste and her eloquently confessional lyrics hit you right in the heart.'
Red Shoes
Soaring, passionate vocals, chiming acoustic guitars and a superb catalogue of original songs in the Folk/Roots/Americana vein by Birmingham’s Carolyn and Mark Evans lie at the heart of the Red Shoes success story. They have become a live favourite on the Club, Theatre and Festival circuit over the years. Add to this the patronage of such legendary musicians as Dave Pegg, Dave Swarbrick, Joe Brown, Bev Bevan, Ric Sanders, Chris Leslie, PJ Wright, all of whom have guested on the three critically acclaimed albums by Red Shoes.
Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention/Jethro Tull/Dylan Project) produced their debut album “Ring Around the Land” and went on to record his version of Carolyn and Mark’s song “Celtic Moon” for the Fairport Convention album “Festival Bell”.
The follow up, “All The Good Friends” produced by Mick Dolan (Show of Hands, Traffic, Fisherman’s Friends) featured a dazzling version of Roy Wood’s “Blackberry Way” to which Bev Bevan leant his vocal support.
“It Isn’t Over Yet”, the duo’s latest release is a double album, which features Dave Pegg, Ric Sanders and legendary Joe Brown. Awarded “Band Album of 2017” by FolkWords and hailed as “A Classic!” by FATEA Magazine, this recording shows their songwriting scaling new heights.
Currently performing as a guitar based trio, they have shared stages with The Strawbs; Fotheringay; Iain Matthews; Pentangle; Show of Hands, Steve Knightley, Richard Digance, Paul Young.
The Angels want to hear these Red Shoes – Maverick
Many years ago I had the good fortune to see Sandy Denny fronting Fairport Convention on several occasions. Red Shoes front-woman Carolyn Evans has the same kind of strong but fragile voice – Blues Matters
