About Threads of Resilience
We are looking for 12 enthusiastic participants to enrol in this amazing three days art project that will happen this summer in Chingford!
Event Description:
Join us for Threads of Resilience, an inspiring African textiles art project funded by the Waltham Forest Council's 'Make it Happen' grants programme. This unique event offers individuals from black and minority ethnic backgrounds with poor mental health an opportunity to explore the rich history and diverse types of traditional African textiles.
What to Expect: During our engaging art sessions, participants will:
- Discover the fascinating history, types, and origins of artisan African textiles such as Adire cloth, Mud cloth, and Adinkra cloth.
- Create inspired prints on fabric and paper using monotype printing techniques on gel plates, reflecting the vibrant colours, patterns, and symbolism found in these textiles.
- Learn about renowned African textile artists Chief Nike Davis-Okundaye and Thandiwe Mariu.
- Draw inspiration from these artists to create individual and collective mixed media textile artworks.
Exhibition: Threads of Resilience will culminate in a powerful art exhibition showcasing the unique creations of our participants. This exhibition will provide a platform for the community to appreciate the artistic expressions of individuals overcoming mental health challenges.
