About French Sundaes: Lacombe, Lucien (1974)
Lacombe, Lucien is a 1974 French war drama film by Louis Malle about a French teenage boy during the German occupation of France in World War II, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
There is so much about Lacombe, Lucien to relish and enjoy. Louis Malle courted controversy and unpopularity with this unblinking look at France during the war and those who collaborated with their Nazi occupiers. It is especially notable for Malle’s casting of a complete novice in the lead role which paid dividends on screen.
Each film is accompanied by an introductory illustrated talk by Jon Davies, Tutor in French Cinema at Morley College.
Doors open at 13.00, for a 14.00 start.
