About Film: Kennington Noir presents Black Tuesday (1954)

Black Tuesday (1954), directed by Hugo Fregonese, with Edward G. Robinson, Peter Graves and Jean Parker.

Robinson plays Vincent Canelli, a convict on death row who plans a prison break with his girlfriend Hatti (Jean Parker). The escape takes place, with Canelli taking five hostages as well as the other death row prisoners, including Manning (Graves), who has hidden the cash from his last crime, which Canelli wants for himself.

“Robinson … gives one of the most ferocious performances of his remarkable career. This is all the more impressive considering he was at a low ebb owing to various domestic issues and for being greylisted for testifying to the HUAC inquiry into communism in the film industry. Robinson was never a Method actor, but he clearly channelled all of his troubles and bitterness into his character’s seething cruelty” (Radio Times).

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
