Nicky Grant, former Scotland Women’s FC captain, and David Jarvis, Invictus Games gold medallist, have had journeys that exemplify resilience, hard work and sheer grit and determination. Come along for an evening of stories, laughs and tales of inspiration from two individuals who have made it their mission to achieve their dreams and lift others to reach theirs.

About the speakers - Nicky

A compelling and inspiring communicator and orator, Nicky’s leadership values were cemented early in her life’s journey. With a family and community who championed her early prowess on the football pitch, firmly and demonstratively supporting her dream to play both professionally and for her country, lessons of dedicating your time, energy and attention to your ‘tribe’ were paramount in how she positioned herself as a leader. In senior roles in schools across the North of Scotland, her work to develop her leadership skills centred on positioning herself as the learner and her goal of fostering hope and devotion in her team.

Nicky’s continued development as a leader came through her role as Director of Education for the largest local authority in Scotland where she oversaw 204 schools and strategically managed a budget of £290m to maximise outcomes for the young people in her ward through the spearheading of policy reforms and overseeing the achievement of educational KPIs.

No matter whether on the pitch, in a classroom or in the boardroom, Nicky’s leadership style tells a story: one of compassion and dedication that stem from a deeply held conviction that emotional intelligence is paramount. Her leadership is defined by empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping others succeed, making every step toward progress a shared journey.

About the speakers - David

David Jarvis is a motivational speaker and Invictus Games gold medallist whose journey exemplifies resilience and determination. A British Army veteran, David draws on his personal and professional experiences to inspire individuals and teams to embrace challenges, overcome adversity and achieve their full potential.

Medically discharged from the British Army, David faced life-altering challenges, including a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes while training for the Invictus Games. Undeterred, he used these experiences as fuel to succeed, culminating in a gold medal in the Men’s Cycling Time Trial at the 2023 Games. His story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of collaboration and support in achieving greatness.

David’s passion lies in empowering others. Whether addressing corporate teams, sports organisations or educational institutions, he tailors his message to inspire growth, resilience and a winning mindset. Through engaging storytelling and actionable insights, he connects with diverse audiences, fostering a spirit of determination and unity.
