Jack Sholder’s The Hidden begins as an adrenaline?fueled action movie: a slug-like alien leaps from host to host, turning ordinary citizens into thrill-seeking criminals. As the LAPD struggles to understand the chaos, a soft?spoken FBI agent—Kyle MacLachlan, years before becoming Agent Cooper—arrives with knowledge he can’t quite explain.
For many viewers, the film feels Lynch-adjacent. MacLachlan’s uncanny investigator, the malevolent force passing between bodies, and the contrast between bland offices and sudden eruptions of violence echo themes Lynch developed in Twin Peaks. The Hidden shows how even a commercial sci?fi thriller can brush against the Lynchian.
