About Under the Silver Lake (2018) Presented by: Not By Lynch
David Robert Mitchell’s Under the Silver Lake follows Sam, an unemployed dreamer who becomes convinced that his neighbour’s disappearance is tied to hidden codes embedded in pop culture. His investigation leads him through parties, zines, underground bunkers and urban legends.
Critics have frequently compared the film to Lynch’s LA works, noting its dreamy pacing, sinister glamour and paranoid surrealism. It channels Mulholland Drive’s haunted Hollywood while satirising millennial conspiracism.
With an accompanying essay and introduction by critic, Ben Flanagan.
