About Partial Suspensions - Foundations and Flow
Please note this is a 2 part workshop, attendance will be required on both 7th and 14th February, between 4-9pm.
This workshop is aimed at those who want to confidently build upon foundational skills used in floor rope and move them into partial suspension. The focus throughout will be on safety, control of the tie, and intentional movement, with attention to how these choices affect both rigger and bottom.
This is not about chasing height or spectacle, but about understanding structure, support, and connection that opens to new possibilities in play.
We’ll explore how subtle changes in tension, angle, and support can dramatically impact sensation, vulnerability, and presence within rope.
There will be space to ask questions, troubleshoot concerns, and explore safely within an open, consent-aware, skill-focused learning environment.
If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of partial suspension, refine your technique, and integrate it meaningfully into your rope play, this workshop is for you.
Prerequisites
To get the most out of this workshop, participants should already be comfortable with a solid single column tie, have good rope handling and tension control, and are familiar with tying basic structures (such as futomomo or agura) on the floor.
Each couple attending the workshop is expected to have good communication with their tying partner, basic understanding of nerve placement in arms and be sensation aware, when it comes to nerve compression and circulation issues.
This is not a beginner rope class, but it is a space to refine fundamentals and learn how to translate them into partial suspension and play.
Each ticket is for a pair (rigger and bottom).
Please do NOT attend alone as you will not be able to participate in this workshop.
If you are unsure about any of the prerequisites, please contact us. While tickets are readily available for purchase, we do reserve the right to refund these if we feel you do not meet the prerequisites.
Teachers
All teaching and demonstrations will be led by Beasttt and Loulou_c, who have been running and teaching at Manchester Rope Jam since 2019.
They have been tying together since 2017, attending classes and workshops throughout the UK and internationally. For the last 3 years, their rope has been heavily influenced by Naka ryu, and this is reflected in their tying and teaching style, which has an emphasis on unique connection between partners.
We look forward to sharing with you what we have learnt and adopted into our own rope practice during our ongoing education.
Details
The workshop consists of two sessions, 5 hours each, held on two separate Saturdays in February.
The two-part format allows us to build skills progressively, with time between sessions to integrate concepts, practice, and reflect, rather than rushing through techniques.
Spaces are limited.
Dates: 7th & 14th of February
Location: Manchester – BodyBarre Northern Quarter
Price: £130 per couple
