About Partial Arts: floor to suspension with The_Horror and -Cottontail-

This class is designed as an introduction to suspension exploring the risks and how to manage them and then helping you from the floor to the air.

It is for people who already have experience with floor tying and are curious about moving into suspension within a supportive, safe, and non-judgemental space. You don’t need previous suspension experience, but you should arrive as a pair with some shared rope skills.

The class content:

  • Risks, safety, and equipment
  • Assessing hard points
  • Hangers, uplines, breaks and lock offs
  • How to manage emergency situations in suspension
  • Suspending a chest harness.
  • A suspendable lower body harness.
  • Putting it all together to go to your first partial suspension
  • An evening jam where you can explore, practice and ask questions

This class is not a one stop to suspension. It is your responsibility to use this information to form part of a wider learning. This class teaches solid fundamentals of suspension and teaches a short suspension sequence.

Pre-requisites:

Adequate negotiation between rigger and model to complete the class

Riggers and models must have a suspension worthy upper body harness such as an arms-forward suspension harness, TK (2/3 rope) or arms free chest harness. Should you require signposting to any suspendable harnesses to have prepared for this class please message us.

Riggers and models must both be aware of issues related to circulation and nerve impingement in bondage and be comfortable communicating with each other.

Equipment:

  • At least 8 x 7.5m ropes.
  • (If tying with synthetic rope) Two weight-rated mini ring or carabiner.
  • Safety shears
  • Comfortable clothing that allows you to move

You are welcome to bring additional or different equipment if you prefer to work with specific gear. We will also be discussing why certain choices are made, so curiosity is encouraged.

Venue information:

The venue will open at 12:30 and will start at 13:00. Teaching will continue till 17:00 then we will have a rope jam from 19:00-22:00

The venue is a little out of town and we need to maintain the privacy of the venue. You'll receive the address and instructions for finding the venue in your ticket. It's about a 10 minutes drive from the train station and there is a bus that runs near to the venue.

When you get to the address, go through the gates and with your back to the gates you'll find us in the last door down the right hand side of the building.

There is on site parking available. Everywhere is marked permit parking but this only applies Monday-Friday, so anywhere around the venue.

There is a Tesco and Aldi very locally and we will be going to Bella Italia which is very close by as well during the break for dinner.

We have tea, coffee and water available, bring your own drinks container to help with the environment but we do also have limited disposable cups. We also have sweet things that cater for vegan, dairy free and gluten free.

About the teachers:

The_Horror has been tying for 13 years and mostly favours Japanese style rope bondage with its classical chest harnesses. He has attended classes and one to one tuition across the UK and Europe. BoundToFeelFree has been a rope bunny since 2020 and is knowledgeable in safety and communication in rope. They have been tying together for 2 years and help to run York Rope Jam with -Cottontail-. Together, they are passionate about the local rope community and encouraging the development of rope skills at all levels.

-Cottontail- came into rigging through self suspension 3 years ago and immediately applied her hyper focus on learning with diversity of sources and purpose. Since then she has attended local and international rope festivals, been to workshops with a multitude of teachers giving her a well rounded and broad understanding of rope, risks in rope and purposeful decision making. Self suspension transitioned into rigging with others which is when she met Jasper. They have been tying for 2 years and together have been to formal classes and from hours of practice together, have learned suspension.
