About The Night of the Hunter (1955) Presented by Kennington Noir
Directed by Charles Laughton, starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish. 16mm film presentation.
Robert Mitchum plays a serial killer who poses as a preacher and pursues two children in an attempt to get his hands on $10,000 of stolen cash hidden by their late father.
This superlative Southern gothic noir was amazingly Laughton’s only directorial effort. The film was a critical and commercial failure on release, but has been completely re-evaluated over the years and it is now regarded as a cult classic and regularly figures in lists on all time best films.
