About Introduction to Gote - Foundations, Safety, and Adaptability
The Gote is one of the most iconic ties in Shibari, yet it requires a deep understanding of mechanics and anatomy to be both beautiful and safe.
In this workshop, we will focus on a two-rope, stemless Gote, prioritizing structural integrity and a partner-centered approach.
We will deconstruct the tie to understand how tension, alignment, and rope placement interact with real bodies. While we will focus on one specific style, the session is designed to be responsive; we will address how to adapt the tie to different body compositions, shoulder mobilities, and comfort levels as they arise.
What we will cover:
Anatomical Safety: Mapping of nerve paths and blood circulation to mitigate risks and ensure a safe experience.
Gentle Entry: A rotator-cuff-friendly approach to bringing the arms behind the back, focusing on shoulder positioning and joint health.
Structural Mechanics: Exploring the "building blocks" of the stemless Gote, including rope placement, tensioning, and secure locking.
Body-Positive Adaptation: Tools for tweaking pressure and placement to accommodate different body types.
Communication: Listening to your partner’s responses to ensure the Gote works for both of you.
Upline Checks: Checks for suspension stability and suitable upline attachment points.
NOTE - This is not a suspension workshop. We will not go into suspension at this workshop, however if we have enough time, those already proficient with uplines may check the harness load.
Prerequisites
Riggers need to be able to tie a single column with both granny and square knot variations, have good rope handling and tension control. This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners.
Each couple attending the workshop is expected to have good communication with their tying partner, basic understanding of nerve placement in arms and be sensation aware, when it comes to nerve compression and circulation issues.
Both rigger and the bottom need to be in good health. Bottoms should be free from any musculoskeletal health issues that might prove dangerous when in a TK tie or position.
Each ticket is for a pair (rigger and bottom).
Please do NOT attend alone as you will not be able to participate in this workshop.
If you are unsure about any of the prerequisites, please contact us. While tickets are readily available for purchase, we do reserve the right to refund these if we feel you do not meet the prerequisites.
