About Dead Ringers (1988) on 16mm Presented by: Siren Screen

To celebrate this Gemini season, Siren Screen and Glue Gun present Dead Ringers (1988), David Cronenberg’s tragic, clinical character study of gynaecologists Elliot and Beverly, identical twins who share everything – their home, their medical practice and even their sexual conquests.

Unusually, Dead Ringers examines the internal horrors of identity more so than the explicit visual body horror that Cronenberg became known for, making it a deep cut and gem in his filmography. The film still captures his fascination with physical and mental degradation and transformation, with a more contemplative tone.

We will also be screening A Kind of Testament (2023), a 15-minute multi-award-winning short animation that takes the Croenberg-inspired body horror into the digital horrors of today. Stephan Vuillemin’s unnerving film details a young woman's world coming off kilter after stumbling across animations on her internet created from her private selfies.

This screening is presented by Siren Screen and Glue Gun. Siren Screen is a London-based community film club celebrating the mythic in motion – screening fantastical, esoteric and cult cinema from around the globe. Glue Gun are a London/Leeds based film programming duo with a love of cult and genre cinema.
