About Pride (2014) Presented by: La Monocle’s Film Club

We are back with the eighth edition of La Monocle’s monthly queer film club, created in collaboration with the wonderful Caroline Cassin. Each month, we gather to celebrate queer cinema, build community, and create a welcoming space to meet new people. For Pride month, we are excited to show Pride (2014).

Inspired by true events, the film recounts the uplifting and poignant story of how, during the 1984 Welsh miners’ strike, a group of LGBT activists forged an unlikely partnership with striking miners’ families. Driven to create real impact, they fundraise to support the National Union of Mineworkers, even as the Union hesitates to accept their aid. This compelling film illustrates the transformative impact of solidarity and uniting in adversity.

We’ll open doors at 6:30pm for a relaxed hour of mingling, giving you a chance to chat and make friends. Drinks and snacks will be available at the Cinema Museum cafe/bar.

The film begins at 7:30pm. Whether it’s simply wanting a warm space to carry on conversations, wanting to meet new people, or to discover the beauty of Queer cinema. We got you.
