About Audrey Wozniak + Doğu Ekin Duo

Join violinist Audrey Wozniak and multi-instrumentalist Doğu Ekin, founder of Gizlibahçe Akustik, for an intimate evening of music that bridges tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from the rich musical heritage of Turkey and neighboring regions, the duo presents contemporary reimaginings of folk melodies, classical forms, and cross-cultural musical encounters. Through a blend of violin, guitar, kopuz, voice, improvisation, and original arrangements, they explore the shared histories and evolving sounds of a vast musical landscape stretching across Anatolia and beyond. Performed in the unique setting of the St Pancras Clock Tower, this concert invites listeners into a close-up musical conversation where old and new, local and global, familiar and unexpected meet. The result is a deeply personal and atmospheric journey through music shaped by movement, memory, and cultural exchange.

Born in Istanbul in 1984, Doğu Ekin developed an early interest in music, beginning his journey with the bağlama. Over the years, he has established himself as a multi-instrumentalist, performing on classical guitar, fretless guitar, Oğur sazı, bağlama, kopuz, and lavta. Among these, the kopuz holds a special place in his artistic identity, becoming both a personal passion and a central focus of his musical exploration. His dedication to this ancient instrument has positioned him as an important figure in contemporary interpretations of Turkish musical heritage. Ekin’s study of the kopuz began with lessons from Erkan Oğur, the pioneering musician widely credited with the development of the fretless guitar. Under Oğur’s guidance, he deepened his understanding of the instrument’s unique timbre and expressive possibilities, integrating its sound into his own musical language. His work has gained recognition both in Turkey and internationally, including performances in London that introduced the kopuz to wider audiences. He continues to expand his artistic reach through his work producing the successful music channel Gizlibahçe Akustik, which brings together many of the greatest artists of Türkiye to share their voices globally. Through his dedication, Doğu Ekin bridges tradition and contemporary expression, contributing to the preservation and evolution of Turkish musical heritage while exploring new sonic possibilities.
