About Wildways along the Ching: Tackling the Crisis at Root Level: Holding Water in the Land

Learn how planting and soil design can help tackle flooding, drought, and extreme weather. This practical session will explore the role of water-retaining and drought-tolerant plants, how to design planting beds that absorb and store water effectively, and how different soil media influence water movement and retention. Participants will also learn how to create custom soil mixes for herbs and resilient planting schemes, helping gardens better withstand both heatwaves and heavy rainfall.

The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in the topics covered.

  • To reach the site, navigate via maps to E4 8YJ, the entrance to the allotment is opposite the Burnside School.
  • The site is step-free. No practical elements will be overly physical and will be up to attendees whether they can/feel able to participate in these.
  • Please bring weather appropriate clothing and a hat in case it's sunny, suncream will be available, and obviously any note taking materials that might help you (paper, pen, laptop).

This workshop is organised in partnership with OrganicLea, the Waltham Forest Food Growers Network, the London Borough of Waltham Forest and the Greater London Authority via the Green Roots Fund.
