Join us for the tenth edition of La Monocle’s monthly queer film club, created in collaboration with film programmer Caroline Cassin. Each month, we gather at the beautiful Cinema Museum to celebrate queer cinema and foster a welcoming space to meet new people and build community. On 29th July, we are excited to be screening Ammonite (2020).

In 1840s England, overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) ekes out a living on the rugged southern coast. When she’s hired to care for Charlotte Murchison (Saoirse Ronan), the wife of a wealthy visitor, their initial friction gives way to an intense and transformative relationship that challenges the boundaries of class and convention.

Directed by Francis Lee (God’s Own Country), the film features breathtaking cinematography and powerfully authentic performances from its leads.

Doors will open at 6:30pm for a relaxed hour of low music and mingling, offering time to chat and make friends. La Monocle people will be around to help anyone flying solo. Drinks and snacks are available at the Cinema Museum cafe/bar. There is also a small book stall you can browse before the film.

The film begins at 7:30pm. Whether you’re seeking new friends, a supportive space to relax, or a chance to experience the beauty and history of Queer cinema together, we aim to make every guest feel valued and welcome.
