Although he plays the lead character, the ever-reliable Thomas Mitchell only gets third billing behind Ray Milland as the eponymous Mr. Beal. As Film4 commented, “Milland is outstanding as the personification of evil — a talent often obscured by his charm and early juvenile good looks.”
