About Wildways Along The River Ching: Seed Saving Workshop
Our climate is changing, and so must our plants. How can we garden for changing weather? What is seed saving, and how can we do it? What is Seed Sovereignty? What do you mean, we should seed bomb the River Ching?
This family-friendly Reapers workshop will offer an introduction and overview of seed saving, an ancient and essential practice that we must protect.
Through relaxed drawing exercises with artist Buzz Mitchell we will focus on skills of observation and selection in relation to plants, and with food grower Ibby Alcraft we will learn the basic techniques needed to save your own seeds.
This will be suitable for all knowledge levels. Come and share your own skills or learn from others. We will show you how to make fairy-envelopes for seeds and arm you with a locally adapted wildflower mix.
- To reach the site, navigate via maps to E4 8YJ, the entrance to the allotment is opposite the Burnside School.
- The site is step-free. The facilitators will make the workshop as adaptable as possible based on the needs of the group, and they will both be on hand to provide any extra support. The plan is to have interactive activities woven into the theoretical/sit down element of the workshop. The workshop will take place around a table, and there will be chairs to sit down for the workshop theory component.
- No practical elements will be overly physical and will be up to attendees whether they can/feel able to participate in these.
- There will be tea, coffee and water on hand (people might want to bring their own water bottles and these can be re-filled in the clubhouse sink).
- Please bring weather appropriate clothing and a hat in case it's sunny, suncream will be available, and obviously any note taking materials that might help you (paper, pen, laptop).
This workshop is organised in partnership with The Waltham Forest Food Growers Network, OrganicLea, the London Borough of Waltham Forest and the Greater London Authority via the Green Roots Fund.
