About Labour Women's Branch Guided Town Walk

Join the Shrewsbury Labour Women's Branch for a guided tour of our historic town of Shrewsbury.

The walk follows a trail adapted from the limited edition book the Women of Shrewsbury Walk. Produced in 2020 by members of the Shrewsbury Labour Women's Branch, the book brings together the stories of historic Shrewsbury women into a beautifully illustrated self-guided walk. Join volunteer branch members as they guide you through our town and share stories about the women who lived here and their impact on the town and wider society.

The walk will meet in The Square in Shrewsbury Town Centre, with the walk congregating underneath the Old Market Hall. Please arrive promptly for 10.30am in time for walk groups to be organised and to stagger starts of each group. The walk will end at St Nicholas  where you can join fellow walkers, members and our Labour MP candidate for Shrewsbury, Councillor Julia Buckley

FAQs

Is there a cost for the walk? No. The walk has been organised and delivered by volunteers who are members of the Shrewsbury Labour Women's Branch. Guides will ask for donations at the walk, but walkers are not obligated to donate if they do not wish to do so. Donations can also be made before the walk via the website: Shrewsbury Labour Donate

How are donations used? Donations made will support the work of the Shrewsbury Labour Women's Branch and our support of our Labour MP candidate and potentially first female MP for Shrewsbury, Councillor Julia Buckley, as well as the National Labour Party. For more information and terms and conditions on donating to Labour, please visit the website.

Please note if you donate prior to the walk and this is subsequently cancelled, we will not be able to address any donations made via the website.

How is the route determined? The route follows a trail adapted from the limited edition book the Women of Shrewsbury Walk. It starts in The Square and finishes at St Nicholas.

How long is the walk? The walk will last no longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes. Groups will be staggered at the start to ensure groups are spaced out. Please arrive for 10.30am but be aware that your walk may start slightly later. All walks should be finished by 12.30pm.

I am concerned about my mobility/have an access need?  Walkers are advised that Shrewsbury has many inclines and hills, which do form part of the walk. This may be challenging for those with accessibility needs or those with pushchairs, which we would not advise for the walk. If you would like further information on this, or would like to talk about specific needs please email us

Are there refreshments available? You are welcome to bring your own refreshments for the walk, but please note no time has been allocated to purchase refreshments during the walk. The walk will finish at St Nicholas where walkers are welcome to purchase refreshments, meet with fellow walkers, members and our Labour MP candidate for Shrewsbury, Councillor Julia Buckley.

Who can book on the walk? Anyone and everyone. This walk is open to everyone.

Can I bring friends/family with me? Yes. Please ensure you select the relevant number of tickets when booking to ensure we're able to provide tours for all walkers on the day.

What happens if there is bad weather on the day? Organisers will review weather in the week prior and on the day of the walk. If the walk is cancelled, walkers booked in advance will be advised via email. Please come prepared for the British weather!

What if the walk is postponed or cancelled? If we cancel the walk and you have booked a ticket to attend, we will email you with as much notice as possible. We will also endeavour to publish this on our social media channels as early as possible. If you have made arrangements to travel for the walk, we will not be liable for any costs incurred due to cancellation or postponement.

I have a different question: If you still have questions about the walk, or anything else about the Shrewsbury Labour Party, please do get in touch
