About Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror & Shock Treatment - Double Bill!

"I would like, if I may, to take you...on a Strange Journey."

Join the Kino as we celebrate what's been described as the ultimate cult movie - a truly unique camp horror musical that made its name through a cult following for midnight screenings. This new documentary will shine a light on the Rocky Horror story with interviews with all the key cast members (including Tim Curry) and more.

As we like to do things slightly differently in the Kino and to highlight unfairly maligned or lesser known films, we've decided to pair the Rocky Horror doc with the underrated follow up to The Rocky Horror Picure Show, Shock Treatment, also written by Richard O'Brien (including original songs) and featuring many of the Rocky Horror cast in this prescient indictiment of reality tv.

"It's not a sequel... it's not a prequel... it's an equal!"

Shock Treatment (1981)

Tickets for this double bill cost £9 and we have allocated handful of free tickets for those not in a position to pay (available here). Documentary screens at 7.30pm, feature at 9.30pm. Strange Journey has full Descriptive Subtitles, Shock Treatment will be screened with English language subtitles only.

Content warning:

Both films include instances of strong language and homophobia. As noted by the bbfc: "Discrimination is clearly challenged by the work."

Leith Kino!

A weekly community cinema night based at Leith Depot.

Join us for weekly screenings, celebrating films that are international, experimental, arthouse, trash, cult, a little bit strange, and maybe otherwise hard to see on the big screen.

Each screening will be introduced by a member of the Leith Kino collective and, importantly, there will be free (vegan) popcorn.

Drinks and refreshments are available to purchase at the Depot bar, alongside our monthly posters, each designed by a different Leith-based artist.

Leith Kino Access Information

  • English subtitles will be onscreen for every screening, including descriptive subtitles where possible.
  • The screening room is on ground level and is wheelchair accessible from the Leith Depot bar with flexible seating to accommodate specific requirements.
