About Francis Dunnery acoustic evening
We are delighted to host Francis Dunnery at Nixon's Music & Books. An evening with Francis Dunnery is intense and intimate, allowing a personal connection with a small audience. During the gigs, Francis will mix songs spanning his career with wise words and amazing anecdotes.
Dunnery grew up in a working-class musical family in Egremont, England. His older brother Barry "Baz" Dunnery (guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne's first post-Black Sabbath band) was his greatest musical influence. Francis began his professional career at an early age playing drums four nights a week in a cabaret club. He later gained prominence in the 1980s as the lead singer and guitarist for the British prog-pop band 'It Bites', known for hits like "Calling All the Heroes". After leaving It Bites in 1990, he launched a prolific solo career, releasing over ten original albums spanning various genres including progressive rock, pop, folk, R&B, and blues. He has worked as a sideman, producer and musical contributor for major artists such as Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, Lauryn Hill and Ian Brown (The Stone Roses). Dunnery is described as a "musician's musician" and an educator, known for making dazzling technique serve the song with deep melody and genuine soul. The legendary Robert Plant once said, “Francis Dunnery should be a public service”.
