About Oldershaw Comedy Night June 2026
TRY not to laugh as Oldershaw Rugby Club hosts another comedy night in the clubhouse on Friday, June 26
As well as enjoying an MC and FOUR great acts from the UK comedy scene punters will also be able to enjoy a selection of food from the barbecue (veggie option also available).
Our headliner is the sensational HOWARD ANSTOCK
After only starting his comedy career in 2017, it was not long before Howard won his first accolade as the Cheshire Cat Comedy New Act 2018, closely followed by being awarded the Kung-fu Pug Comedy New Act 2019.
Howard was then a Great Yorkshire Fringe New Act finalist 2019 and World Series semi-finalist in 2019.
With deeply personal material, that mixes anecdotes and experiences, Howard has been described as “an acidic Victoria Wood”, which is high praise indeed.
From being homeless to being humorous….Howard is on an exciting comedy journey.
“Absolutely terrific, a performance that went like clockwork, everything landed” - Notts Comedy Review
The wonderful opening act is JIMMY SHIRLEY - a fast rising stand up on the UK comedy circuit.
A frenetic fool who ponders the absurdity of being a Scouser in Greece, growing up in Kirkby in the 90’s, and the everyday things that really annoy him.
A ‘So you think your Funny’ semi-finalist, and Clinton Baptiste tour support, since returning to the UK, Jimmy has performed across the Northwest and beyond, featuring at Edinburgh fringe with the split show Pool’s gold in 2024 and Consett and Ten Creek comedy festivals respectively. He finished off the year performing his show ‘Eki Cosmos Messa’ at Hot Water Comedy club and on the Greek island of Skiathos.
‘One to watch, electrified the room and audience’- Lancaster Guardian
‘Jimmy based his act on his antics in Greece, I’m surprised he lived to tell the tale, perfect comedy gold’ -Edinburgh Theatre and Arts Review
Also on the bill is funny onion MIKE KEENAN, a rising star on the UK circuit, performing regularly for clubs and promoters across the UK in addition to writing for BBC radio.
He has been described as "Brilliant" (Up The Creek), "A Joy to Watch" (Shoecake Comedy) and "Superb" (Backyard Comedy Club).
His first solo show “Impossible Dream” was nominated for the 2025 Best Debut Award at Leicester Comedy Festival. His Year 9 Maths Teacher said he "will never achieve anything of worth if he keeps joking around" and so he leant into it.
We’ll also have a set from quick-fire gag merchant BEN TURNER, a World One Liner Championship and Comedy Cellar Yorkshire New Act of the Year finalist whose reels have clocked up more than 3 million views on Facebook. Ben was included in the Daily Telegraph and The Poke’s funniest jokes of lockdown and his TV appearances include as a Huddersfield Town ball-boy on Goals on Sunday (ITV Yorkshire).
"Razor wit. Funny enough to text your ex about.”' - Manchester Comedy Club
'Performs with the intensity of a dancing crab' - Noel James
‘The kind of comic you’ll be quoting on the way home’- The Guide
The MC for the night is Welsh wit wizard KEVIN CASWELL-JONES.
Describing himself as "undeniably among Wrexham’s 200 best comedians", Kevin is a veteran of the UK comedy circuit and a regular contributor to Viz comic. With wit as sharp as his snazzy shoes Kevin will hilariously bulldoze his way through his midlife crisis and glue the night together.
Doors 6.30pm. Comedy 8pm.Food will be available on the night. So, let’s guffaw and UP THE SHAW!
All money made on the night will be ploughed back into the club.
