About Josephine Foster & Support at Inwardleigh Church

Josephine Foster is a Colorado-born singer, composer, and lyric poet. A former opera student turned visionary folk experimentalist, she breathes new life into archaic forms. Her music channels the cultural archaeology of Harry Smith's old weird America. Across 25 years of singular work, Foster plays at the boundaries of psych-folk hymnody, country blues, lieder and avant-song, lending her characteristic mezzo-soprano and interpretative wit to collaborations with underground musicians far and wide.

Support from Bill Murray, a Dartmoor folk singer  based in North Tawton. A founding member of the Dartmoor Folk Festival, he is a powerful performer of traditional songs, Bill  has been singing old Devonshire songs for many years. The dialect, accent and humour of our area is preserved in these songs, several of which were published in sheet form, and even recorded on 78rpm records during the first half of the last century. Bill will sing a selection of these humorous songs and play on his concertina, some of the old dance tunes which Bob Cann played at local events.
