About The Smallest Shows on Earth
A celebration of the little, lost, ‘fleapit’ cinemas of East London with social historian and Radio 4 presenter Alan Dein. Alan is a multi-award winning writer and broadcaster whose great grandparents were the proprietors of The Cable Picture Palace, a notorious ‘fleapit’ in Cable Street, hugely popular with the locals, but raised to the ground in 1941 during The Blitz.
Alan’s fascinating talk will include a screening of The Smallest Show on Earth (1957) starring Margaret Rutherford, Bernard Miles and Peter Sellers, accompanied by some theatrical surprises along the way.
