About Gozu (2003) on 35mm
Gozu, 2003, Japan
Moving between yakuza thriller, surrealist comedy and body horror, Gozu transforms the familiar codes of the gangster film into a delirious exploration of loyalty, identity and desire. Premiering in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, Takashi Miike’s cult film showcases the director at his most unpredictable, pushing genre conventions towards the grotesque, the absurd and the uncanny.
With an introduction by Leo Krenzer. Screened from a 35mm print in the Museum’s collection.
