About Songs Of Joni Mitchell
We're putting the songs of Joni Mitchell in Kendal Library. Jesca Hoop and Lail Arad sing them. Richard Sears plays piano. The books get the best seats in the house.
Hoop and Arad both write their own songs, and both have crowds who come for that. Here they sing Joni's, in their own voices, close enough that you can follow every line. Lail Arad made the show for Joni's 80th birthday. It started at the Roundhouse in 2024, the rooms sold out, and other singers kept joining in. Kate Stables, Vashti Bunyan and Lisa Hannigan have all had a turn. Kendal gets Hoop, Arad and Sears.
Jesca Hoop lived with this music for the BBC series Legend: The Joni Mitchell Story. She, Lail and Kate Stables also recorded a handful of the songs together, The Songs Of Joni Mitchell Vol. 1. Thursday night is the full thing: a piano, two voices, and a room that was built for reading, which turns out to be perfect for listening.
