About Santa Claus vs. the Devil (1959) - Free Tickets
For our final screening before we take a break for the holidays, we’re heading to outer space with Santa Claus vs. the Devil (1959), René Cardona’s gloriously bonkers Mexican Christmas fantasy. Here, Santa runs his Toyland factory from a castle in outer space, staffed by an international workforce of children rather than elves, while Merlin the magician devises ingenious gadgets to help him on his annual Christmas Eve journey to Earth.
Meanwhile, Lucifer has sent a demon to sabotage Christmas, turn the world’s children towards mischief and expose Santa to the public. What follows is an unconventional festive adventure involving controversial musical numbers, creepy dancing dolls and mechanical reindeer.
A wonderfully eccentric slice of vintage Mexican cinema, Santa Claus vs. the Devil offers a rather different take on the Christmas story, and a suitably strange way for Leith Kino to sign off for the year.
The film will be presented with English subtitles.

A weekly community cinema night based at Leith Depot.
Join us for weekly screenings, celebrating films that are international, experimental, arthouse, trash, cult, a little bit strange, and maybe otherwise hard to see on the big screen.
There will be free (vegan) popcorn. Drinks and refreshments are available to purchase at the Depot bar, alongside our monthly posters, each designed by a different Leith-based artist.

- English subtitles will be onscreen for every screening, including descriptive subtitles where possible.
- The screening room is on ground level and is wheelchair accessible from the Leith Depot bar with flexible seating to accommodate specific requirements.

- Leith Depot is well-served by public transport. It's a short walk from the Foot of the Walk tram stop, and there is a bus stop outside the venue for services: 7, 14, 16, 25, and 49
