About Possession (1981)

Screening as part of our Sam Neill Weekender. Join us the day before, on the 26th September, at Argonaut books for In the Mouth of Madness (1994) tickets here.

We are celebrating the life of beloved actor Sam Neill with a screening of the notorious 1981 art-house horror drama Possession at Leith Depot!

It's West Berlin at the turn of the 1980s and Mark (Neill) and Anna (Isabelle Adjani) are beginning a messy, violent divorce. Following a series of bloody arguments and Anna's increasingly unusual behaviour, Mark hires a private investigator who begins to unearth things significantly more grotesque than anyone expected...

Polish director Andrzej Żuławski, who was going through a difficult divorce of his own while writing the film, brings the same level of creative flourish and freneticism he did with The Devil (1972), which we screened in April as part of Fiends in the Furrows. Here, the director's emotional anguish is mapped onto the Cold War landscape in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, with career defining performances from Neill and Adjani as increasingly monstrous figures.

We have also allocated a number of free tickets for those not in a position to pay. If you would like to help support our free ticket initiative, you can pay it forward here

Leith Kino!

A weekly community cinema night based at Leith Depot.

Join us for weekly screenings, celebrating films that are international, experimental, arthouse, trash, cult, a little bit strange, and maybe otherwise hard to see on the big screen.

There will be free (vegan) popcorn. Drinks and refreshments are available to purchase at the Depot bar, alongside our monthly posters, each designed by a different Leith-based artist.
